The Role

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develop psychosocial assessments through clinical interviews with assigned clients and families, considering developmental, social, cultural, substance abuse, psychological, environmental, and medical issues.
  • Develop treatment plans with measurable treatment objectives.
  • Provide clinical treatment services in the form of triage, crisis intervention, individual, group, and family therapy, screening, and planning.
  • Advocate and develop networks of social and clinical services to assist clients with identified needs.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment plans and document treatment in clinical records.
  • Complete reports in accordance with agency and accrediting bodies.
  • Provide clinical supervision to Licensed Master Social Workers.
  • Consult and collaborate with other behavioral health providers to improve service delivery.
  • Provide forensic evaluations and court testimony as required.
  • Maintain social work standards as required.
  • Participate in research projects and perform related duties as needed.

DMHAS is a health care agency whose mission is to promote the overall health and wellness of persons with behavioral health needs through an integrated network of holistic, comprehensive, effective, and efficient services that foster dignity, respect, and self‑sufficiency.

Whiting Forensic Hospital specializes in providing inpatient services to individuals involved in the criminal justice system. Services are provided to individuals admitted via Psychiatric Security Review Board commitments, criminal court orders for restoration of competency, civil commitments, or transfers from the Department of Correction.

A comprehensive medical examination, including a drug screening, will be required of all applicants upon a conditional offer of employment. All state employees must adhere to Connecticut’s Policy for a Drug‑Free Workplace.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensure as a clinical social worker in the State of Connecticut.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as an LCSW working in an inpatient psychiatric hospital.
  • Experience working with a forensic population.
  • Experience with discharge planning from an inpatient setting to mental health residences in CT.
  • Experience testifying in probate court for involuntary commitments and conservatorships.
  • Experience working with PSRB population.
Special Requirements
  • Must possess and retain a license to practice clinical social work pursuant to Sec. 20‑195 (m‑z) of the Connecticut General Statutes.
  • Must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. C. § 1320a‑7b(f).
  • May be required to have knowledge of sign language or communication ability with the deaf and hearing impaired in certain positions.
  • May be required to have ability in Spanish oral and written communication in certain positions.
  • May be required to travel.
