Job Description:
Location: Middletown, Connecticut
MKSG is now accepting applications for a Tooling Engineer II to support tooling design, development, maintenance, and continuous improvement for our manufacturing operations. This mid-level engineering role is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of hands‑on problem solving, 3D/2D design work, and cross‑functional collaboration.
You will play a key role in designing new tooling, improving existing processes, supporting legacy fuzing products, and ensuring that manufacturing runs efficiently and reliably.
This is a F/T, onsite, direct hire role to our client with a target salary of $85K – $95K.
Responsibilities:Tooling Design & Development –
- Design and develop tooling and fixtures using Solid Works
- Create detailed 2D and 3D drawings incorporating GD&T
- Reverse engineer and update legacy tooling where limited documentation exists
- Develop new tooling solutions to improve production efficiency and support new product introductions
- Provide cost and timeline estimates for tooling projects
- Create and manage a tooling preventive maintenance database
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair tooling to minimize downtime
- Implement continuous improvements to enhance tool durability, performance, and reliability
- Generate and maintain tooling documentation using Microsoft Office
- Ensure all designs comply with GD&T, safety requirements, and industry standards
- Support compliance with safety, quality, and security protocols (Secret clearance eligibility required)

- Coordinate with vendors and internal machine shops
- Track progress and communicate updates to leadership
Skills:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
- 2–5 years of experience in tooling design or manufacturing engineering
- Strong proficiency in Solid Works (3D modeling & 2D drawings)
- Solid understanding and application of GD&T
- Hands‑on experience supporting manufacturing operations
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments
- Detail‑oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to learn local systems, software, and databases
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or fuzing products
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
- Familiarity with CNC machining, toolroom operations, or additive manufacturing
Work Environment
- 100% onsite at the Middletown manufacturing facility
- Regular interaction with machining, welding, and assembly areas
- Fast‑paced environment requiring attention to safety and deadlines
