General Description
The On Call/Casual Inspector (Building/Electrical/Plumbing) provides on call/as needed inspection work for the City of Middleton in the Inspector's specified area of expertise. this inspector works under the general supervision of the Inspection Manager. The Inspector will complete inspection assignments in their are of expertise as assigned by the Inspection Manager to the standards set by the City of Middleton.
This is a non-regular, indefinite part-time position. No guarantee of any level of work or length of employment in this position is made - work will only be assigned if:
- Full time inspectors in the City of Middleton cannot accomplish/complete the inspection workload.
- There is a need to complete inspections in the specified area of expertise held by the concerned Inspector.
- The Inspection Department has sufficient budgeted funds to engage part-time inspectors in necessary work.
- Total projected hours worked in the year will not exceed 900 hours.

FOR PLUMBING INSPECTOR CANDIDATES:
Essential Functions
- Inspects buildings and construction sites for compliance with the State WI plumbing, building, HVAC codes and National fuel gas code.
- Writes orders to secure code compliance.
- Maintains job site notices of inspections.
- Keeps daily time records and makes reports on all inspections.
- Conducts re-inspections for compliance with plumbing and building codes.
- Investigates complaints of workmanship and code noncompliance.
- Has the authority to order the disconnection of any equipment that he/she determines to be dangerous to life or property.
- Prepares and maintains records which are submitted to local authorities.
- Reviews plans and specifications for code compliance and advises individuals and contractors regarding code requirements.
- Coordinates with other departments and agencies.
- Testifies in court, as necessary.
- Operates a motor vehicle within the City limits.
Essential Functions
- Reviews applications for, and issues, building, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and erosion control permits.
- Reviews plans and specifications for code compliance.
- Conducts electrical, Commercial/UDC Building and HVAC, and erosion control inspections and re-inspections of new construction and renovations to ensure compliance with applicable codes.
- Performs administrative tasks, keeps daily records, and makes reports relative to inspection work.
- Coordinates work with other departments and agencies.
- Testifies in court concerning code violations, as necessary.
- Investigates code non-compliance and housing and property maintenance complaints.
- Performs electrical maintenance, safety and management tasks that promote a clean and safe working environment for the building's employees.
- Reviews plans and specifications for code compliance with the State WI Commercial and UDC Building, HVAC and Energy Codes.
