SEMH Teaching Assistant - Mainstream School

Contract:
Long-term / ongoing (supply or temporary to permanent opportunities available)
Pay:
Competitive daily rate (dependent on experience)
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who may display challenging behaviour or require emotional regulation support. You will play a vital role in helping pupils engage with learning, develop positive relationships, and build confidence within a mainstream classroom environment.
Key responsibilities- Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Supporting pupils to manage emotions, behaviour, and social interactions
- Implementing behaviour support strategies and individual support plans
- Working collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and pastoral staff
- Promoting positive behaviour and helping pupils remain engaged in lessons
- Supporting pupils during transitions and unstructured times such as break and lunch
- Creating a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment
We are looking for a patient, empathetic, and proactive individual who understands the challenges faced by pupils with SEMH needs.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Experience supporting children with SEMH, behaviour needs, or additional needs
- A calm, consistent, and resilient approach to behaviour management
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to remain positive and adaptable in challenging situations
- A genuine passion for supporting children's emotional wellbeing and development
- Long-term, stable work in a supportive mainstream school
