We are recruiting for a
Textiles Mechanical Design Engineer
to join our Engineering team at our Denham site.
The Role
As a Textiles Mechanical Design Engineer, you will act as an interface between Engineering and Operations for textiles related activity and lead the investigations of issues, develop solutions, manage design changes, and support production assets. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, commercially viable products in line with regulatory and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support sourcing and operations by investigating issues, finding root causes and implementing corrective actions on existing designs and products.
- Act as the primary engineering interface with the sewing room, Sourcing, and Product Engineering Department (PED), ensuring seamless collaboration and communication across functions
- Produce and maintain product definition information (PDI), including 3D models, engineering drawings, specifications and CNC programmes.
- Liaise with and engage support from wider textiles team and specialists, as well as other stakeholders as required to support activity.
- Manage design changes, including 3D CAD modelling, technical calculations, and documentation.
- Conduct performance and structural calculations, including hand calculations and FEA.
- Present at change reviews, and generate technical reports (e.g., 8D, DFMEA, qual reports).
- Support trial builds and customer visits, incorporating feedback into design improvements and ensuring DFM optimised designs.
- Identify and drive opportunities for continual improvement in products and processes.

- Experience in textile product design and manufacturing techniques as well as mechanical components
- Generation of competent requirements, impact assessments, and technical evaluations
- Experience in managing design change projects, mod classifications and problem-solving using 8D techniques
- Good understanding of modern manufacturing methods, materials and processes (including aerospace sector)
- 2.1 or higher in a Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree or similar engineering qualification
- 9% non-contributory pension
