HVAC Tech / Heating Engineer, Building Maintenance
Under supervision, performs entry-level work in the service, maintenance, and installation of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems and associated equipment. Participates in and receives training to achieve proficiency in HVACR mechanic duties. Drives an automobile or light truck to transport workers and equipment.
ResponsibilitiesEXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Participates in the installation, repair, maintenance, and service of a wide variety of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
- Operates a variety of hand and power tools. Lifts and carries HVACR equipment, parts, tools, supplies, and materials. Climbs ladders, crawls, bends, and stoops to access HVACR systems.
- Drives an automobile or light truck to transport workers, equipment, and materials to and from job sites. Lifts and carries HVACR equipment, parts, tools, and supplies. Climbs ladders, crawls, bends, and stoops to access HVACR systems.
- Screws, bolts, and brazes parts to assemble HVACR components such as motors, pneumatic and electronic controls, switches, gauges, wiring harnesses, valves, pumps, compressors, condensers, and pipes.
- Records and maintains accurate records of work performed, time and materials used. Reads blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Communicates appropriately and frequently with faculty, school administrators, supervisor/manager(s) and other employees.
- Participates in and receives training to achieve and maintain proficiency in HVACR mechanic duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and
Experience:
- Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent.
- One year of professional HVACR experience.
Licenses and Certifications
- Possession of a State of Maryland apprentice HVACR license or an equivalent.
- Possession of a valid class C Maryland driver's license or an equivalent.
- Required licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout employment in this position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of building maintenance or construction. Knowledge of building construction tools and equipment. Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration repair.
- Skill in building maintenance or construction.
Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
PHYSICAL AND
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- The work of this class entails heavy physical labor including frequent walking, standing, kneeling, reaching, bending, digging, lifting, and carrying objects of moderate to heavy weight, ascending/descending ladders, scaffolds, stairs and the use of tools and equipment.
- Works in confined spaces in proximity to loud machinery, frequently requires accessing and positioning oneself to reach limited access spaces including but not limited to crawl spaces, roofs, trenches, pits, manholes, attics, and tunnels.
- Recognizes exposure to live circuits and/or operating machinery in adverse weather conditions and travel to sites throughout Baltimore County.

SALARY:

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Annual completion of continuing education/training in accordance with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Professional Standards for School Nutrition Employees.
