Reed City High School is seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join our athletic department as a Varsity Track & Field Assistant Coach for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for track and field, a commitment to student-athlete development, and the ability to work collaboratively with the head coach and other staff. This seasonal position offers an opportunity to contribute to the growth of our student-athletes both on and off the track.
Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach in planning and implementing practice sessions, ensuring that all athletes receive appropriate training and support.
- Provide instruction and coaching in various track and field events, focusing on skill development and performance enhancement.
- Help organize and supervise team activities, including meets, practices, and team meetings.
- Monitor and assess athlete performance, providing constructive feedback and encouragement to foster improvement.
- Promote a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect among athletes.
- Assist with the recruitment and retention of student-athletes, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- Collaborate with the head coach to develop and implement training plans tailored to individual athlete needs.
- Ensure compliance with all school, district, and athletic association policies and regulations.
- Maintain communication with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding schedules, expectations, and any concerns.
- Attend coaching clinics, workshops, and meetings as required to stay current with coaching techniques and strategies.
Requirements
- Previous coaching experience in track and field or a strong background as a competitive athlete in the sport.
- Knowledge of track and field events, techniques, and training methodologies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with coaching staff, athletes, and parents.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- First Aid and CPR certification is preferred; willingness to obtain certification if not currently held.
- A commitment to the academic and athletic success of student-athletes, fostering a balance between sports and education.
- Must pass a background check as required by school district policy.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends during the track and field season.
