Summary A K–12 public school district in Michigan is seeking a dedicated School Social Worker to support the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of its students. The district serves approximately 2,000 learners across elementary, middle and high school levels and is committed to inspiring excellence, integrity and lifelong learning. The School Social Worker will serve as a key part of the Student Support Services team, working closely with students, families, and staff to remove barriers to learning and promote healthy outcomes.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Provide individual and group social-emotional services to students experiencing academic, behavioral or home-life challenges.
- Conduct assessments of student needs, collaborate on intervention plans, and refer to community resources as needed.
- Partner with families, teachers, administrators and outside agencies to coordinate supports and maintain continuity of services.
- Advocate for students in creating safe, inclusive and supportive school environments.
- Collect and monitor data related to student outcomes, attendance, behavioral incidents and social-emotional growth.
- Facilitate crisis response, including immediate support and follow-up services for students in distress.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, IEP/504 plan teams, and professional development activities.
- Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) or related field (School Social Work preferred).
- Valid Michigan School Social Worker endorsement or appropriate certification/license.
- Experience working with children, adolescents and families in educational, clinical or community settings.
- Strong skills in assessment, intervention planning, data analysis and case management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with diverse populations, maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.
- Previous experience in K–12 public schools or urban district settings.
- Familiarity with positive behavior intervention systems (PBIS) and tiered support frameworks (MTSS).
- Training or experience in trauma-informed care, restorative practices or family engagement strategies.
- Knowledge of local community resources and experience referring and coordinating wraparound services.
