At Action Traffic Maintenance, the role of the Diesel Technician is an essential element in maintaining the efficiencies and productivity of the projects within the organization. We look to our mechanics to keep our fleet working effectively on the road and to know how to repair and perform routine maintenance on all fleet vehicles, including, but not limited to, cars, trucks, and other motor vehicles.

EssentialJob Functions
- Identifies mechanical problems, either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
- Performs tests on specific parts and systems to confirm proper mechanical function; ensures that all critical parts are examined.
- Performs routine and preventive maintenance, including oil changes and tune‑ups.
- Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems, such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
- Inspect completed work to ensure proper functioning.
- Inspect mechanical components of vehicles to identify problems.
- Inspect mechanical equipment to locate damage, defects, or wear.
- Lubricate equipment to allow proper functioning.
- Maintain inventories of materials, equipment, or products.
- Determine causes of operating errors and decide what to do about it.
- Maintain repair or maintenance records.
- Clean equipment, parts, or tools to repair or maintain them properly.
- Dismantle heavy equipment or machinery.
- Schedule repair, installation, or maintenance activities.
- Perform further tests, including driving the vehicle, to ensure repairs are completed correctly.
- Make decisions and solve problems.
- Control machines and processes.
- Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
- Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment and keep equipment service records.
- Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Five years or more of related experience preferred but not required.
- Driver’s License - Required.
- Driver’s License with CDL A or B - Preferred but not required.
- At Action Traffic's discretion, may consider an alternative combination of formal education and work experience.
- Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair.
- Excellent mechanical repair skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.
- Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software used internally through Action Traffic Maintenance.
- Ability to read service and repair manuals.
- Ability to perform repairs in a timely fashion.
- Ability to read work orders.
- Ability to utilize all Action Traffic Software to maintain records of work orders and fleet maintenance.
- Works well in a team environment where situations and demands change daily.
- Effective communication skills.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, stand, sit, stretch, squat, kneel, walk, climb, use hands and fingers, talk, hear and view-the ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑stress environment. The employee must lift or push/pull objects of up to 50 lbs. without assistance regularly and up to 100 lbs. occasionally. Accommodation may be made, as needed, for employees required to lift or move objects that exceed this weight.
The employee works near moving mechanical equipment and is exposed to weather conditions, uneven terrain, fumes or airborne particles, and noxious odors. The noise level in the work environment is usually high/loud.
Salary: $23 - $32 per hour
