Seasonal Maintenance Worker – National Park Service

The primary purpose of the position is to perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers. Incumbent utilizes knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts.

• Assist journeyman carpenters, plumbers, and electricians with projects related to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, heating, air conditioning, masonry, and routine maintenance of generators.
• Serve as a temporary maintenance worker performing a variety of building and utility maintenance and general maintenance duties for the Buildings and Utilities, Road, Trails and Grounds, Platte River Campground, and the Manitou Islands.
• Clean public restrooms, pick up and haul garbage, perform minor repairs, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work, pick up litter at visitor use areas, and maintain campgrounds and associated facilities such as public water and wastewater systems, fire pits, fish cleaning stations, picnic areas, grounds, trails, and boardwalks.
• Operate light pickups, electric carts, small tractors, various types of power equipment and hand tools while following prescribed safety practices and using appropriate protective gear.
• Identify and correct job safety and health hazards, following all OSHA regulations and National Park Service safety procedures.

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
• Meet Selective Service registration requirements for males.
• Valid driver’s license required; driver’s record and DMV documents must be submitted.
• Uniform required; allowance provided.
• Potential government housing may be available.

• Ability to perform the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
• Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, and blueprints.
• Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair.
• Knowledge of materials and technical practices related to historic preservation.
• Proficiency with measuring instruments.
