The Charter Township of Shelby Parks, Recreation & Maintenance Department is now accepting applications for a Part‑Time/Seasonal Grounds Maintenance Worker
.
This position is responsible for assisting with the maintenance and upkeep of Township parks, facilities, and grounds. Applicants must be available to work approximately 30– hours per week
, Monday through Sunday
, between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., during the summer season.
The hourly pay rate for this position is $17.82 per hour, no benefits
.
Job Duties
- Open and maintain parks, including emptying trash receptacles, inspecting restrooms, and raking playground areas
- Prepare and maintain ball fields by raking, dragging fields with groomers, chalking lines, and changing bases
- Mow and trim turf using mowers and string trimmers
- Weed and mulch landscape beds
- Trim brush along walking, hiking, and biking trails
- Plant flowers, shrubs, and other landscaping materials
- Paint park structures and facilities
- Pick up and deliver parts, tools, and supplies
- Assist full‑time employees with various maintenance and improvement projects
- Perform seasonal duties such as shoveling snow, salting sidewalks, and plowing sidewalks and park areas as needed
- Must be 18 years of age or older to operate Township vehicles and equipment
- Must have a valid Driver's License
- Experience with grounds maintenance or landscaping equipment is preferred but not required
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, rain, and cold
- Ability to work some weekends, evenings, and holidays
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
