About Toledo Steel Supply

Toledo Steel Supply is a competitive steel supplier with a fun, fast-paced, professional work environment. We are seeking people who value Service, Teamwork, going Above & Beyond, Respecting Others, and Success. Working at TSS is both rewarding and challenging. We offer competitive wages, medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401k profit‑sharing, and paid vacation and sick time.

A day in this role

You arrive to a clean, organized burn department and review work orders for the day. You load plate, verify grades by color code, and program the CNC burning table to balance throughput with material yield. You alternate between oxy‑fuel flame cutting on heavy plate (approximately 1 3/8” to 10” thick) and plasma cutting on thinner stock (around 1/8” to 1 1/4”).

Throughout the shift you measure parts to verify tolerances, adjust parameters as needed, and move material safely with a forklift and overhead crane. Before clocking out, you document and perform pre‑ and post‑shift preventive maintenance and leave the cutting surface in top condition.

Core responsibilities
  • Operate CNC‑controlled plasma and oxy‑fuel systems to cut steel to customer specifications.
  • Read and interpret work orders; set up machines to meet quality expectations and deadlines.
  • Optimize nests and parameters for productivity and material yield without sacrificing cut quality.
  • Perform flame cutting (oxygen and gas) on plate from about 1 3/8” to 10” thick; run CNC plasma on material from roughly 1/8” to 1 1/4”.
  • Verify plate grade using the color‑coding system; confirm dimensions and tolerances using a tape measure and calipers.
  • Follow direction from Supervisors and Shift Leads; adhere to established cutting practices and safe machine operation.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and make basic adjustments to maintain consistent results.
  • Operate material handling equipment safely (forklift and overhead crane).
  • Record and execute all pre‑ and post‑shift preventative maintenance procedures; keep the cutting surface in good order.
  • Comply with all safety rules and best practices; perform other related tasks as assigned.
What you bring
  • High school diploma or GED; a technical certificate or engineering‑related training is a plus.
  • Required:

experience on cutting machines (plasma, laser, or oxy‑fuel).
  • 1–3 years of operating basic CNC machinery.
  • Mechanical aptitude, quality workmanship, and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure; familiarity with calipers.
  • Reliable work ethic, punctuality, and clear communication with teammates.
  • Willingness to work overtime, sometimes on short notice.
Work environment and physical demands

Shop‑based manufacturing environment with regular exposure to noise, chemicals, and typical industrial materials. This is a physically demanding role requiring the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain on your feet for extended periods.
