About the Role

The MRO Buyer will manage the complete lifecycle of production and non‑production material and service acquisition, negotiating terms and contracts, maintaining an optimal supplier base, driving cost‑reduction initiatives, and ensuring timely delivery through effective expediting and inventory management. This role leads cross‑functional supply chain projects, documents activities, participates in new product launches, and collaborates closely with Manufacturing, Accounting and other internal departments while adhering to spend limitations and reporting progress to the General Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Purchase production and non‑production material/services defined by the General Manager.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions for all purchasing transactions, including long‑term contracts.
  • Draft terms for review by the General Manager.
  • Identify areas of potential organizational vulnerability—financial or manufacturing.
  • Maintain supplier base by identifying and including an optimum number of suppliers.
  • Lead and conduct vendor site visits.
  • Coordinate departmental vendor evaluation program.
  • Coordinate efforts of the purchasing team on special projects as assigned.
  • Participate in new product launch initiatives, including sourcing new materials and suppliers.
  • Maintain good supplier relations, expedite deliveries as necessary, and involve engineering for alternative materials if delivery is not available.
  • Initiate and follow through with ongoing cost‑reduction efforts.
  • Provide guidance and insight to the team on vendor cost reductions.
  • Manage all open orders to ensure accuracy and proper inventory levels.
  • Discuss optimum inventory levels for purchased parts and negotiate levels with inventory control personnel.
  • Work collaboratively with other internal departments such as accounting, advertising, and manufacturing.
  • Develop, track, and execute plans for cross‑functional supply‑chain projects.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Closely monitor assigned projects and take appropriate action to ensure successful completion.
  • Report project progress to the General Manager and team members as appropriate.
  • Document all activities as required.
  • Adhere to spend limitations set forth by the General Manager.
  • Advise the General Manager on situations that may pose a significant risk to the program, product assurance, facilities, employee safety, or customer satisfaction.
  • Initiate, recommend, and verify solution implementations through appropriate channels.
  • Do not exceed spend limitations set forth by the General Manager.
Education & Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a manufacturing, management, or related discipline or equivalent combination of work and education.

Required Work Experience

Minimum 5 years in a manufacturing environment using ERP systems, preferably with paper mill or automotive manufacturing experience.

  • Proven cross‑functional team leadership and ability to maintain relationships.
  • Must be able to sit and stand for long periods, have average mobility to move around an office and plant environment, and be able to conduct normal work on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 65 lbs.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of approved Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). Employees required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face to pass the fit test.
