The Cotton Collection Mackinac Island comprises two properties:
Hotel Iroquois and Harbour View Inn. With 80% of the island protected by a Michigan State Park, the area offers abundant outdoor recreation and a vibrant tourism industry. Mackinac Island is the Midwest’s top tourist destination, featuring no cars – just bicycles, foot, and horse traffic. Over 10,000 visitors arrive daily, making it an exciting place to work.
We employ approximately 100 people from early May through October and are currently seeking a year‑round Assistant Facilities Manager. Benefits and housing are available; employees enjoy a quality apartment complex in the residential district adjoining the state park.
Position SummaryPerform routine preventive maintenance and repair, including guest room calls. Follow departmental procedures to ensure safe, neat work. Diagnose issues, apply corrective action, and record all work on service requests. Maintain property areas to high quality standards under Engineering Management’s direction. Write reports, logs, and correspondence; communicate effectively with customers and associates.
Responsibilities- Ensure hotel maintenance and upkeep meet Cotton Collection and guest standards.
- Support the Director of Facilities in overseeing all engineering functions.
- Communicate effectively with customers, co‑workers, and supervisors.
- Guest rooms – handle plumbing, electrical, and cosmetic repairs.
- Public areas – maintain plumbing, electrical, and cosmetic systems.
- Fire alarm/life safety system – monitor, test, and respond to emergencies.
- Energy conservation – monitor usage, report improvement ideas.
- Maintain tools and equipment; secure proper storage.
- Respond to emergencies and protect guests, associates, and building systems.
- Work safely per Job Safety Analysis; correct hazardous conditions.
- Read and interpret meter readings; log daily activities.
- Keep engineering areas clean and organized; assist as directed.
- Complete work safely; coordinate supplies and training.
- Perform structural repairs, patching, painting, and flooring work.
- Check fixtures, lighting, and signs; maintain spare parts supply.
- Respond promptly to maintenance work orders.
- Maintain neat work areas in shop and guestrooms.
- Remain flexible and responsive to scheduling needs.
- Capable of operating hand and power tools.
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and instructions.
- Desire to learn and develop in electrical, carpentry, or other trades.
- Basic knowledge of general maintenance, HVAC, and safety practices.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of trade school or equivalent experience.
- General technical experience and 1–3 years of hotel/facilities maintenance work.
- Annual salary of $65,000.
- Paid Time Off (PTO).
