Overview
Position: Legal Assistant (Estate & Trust) —
Location:
Bloomfield Hills, MI. Plunkett Cooney is seeking a legal assistant to provide support to our growing Trusts & Estate Planning Practice Group. This position will support the leading Partner of the practice group as well as other attorneys within the group as general support. The successful candidate will work with attorneys, other professionals and clients on various estate planning, succession planning, charitable planning, fiduciary responsibility, and trust and estate administration matters.
- Assist with document preparation, drafting of wills, trusts, certificates of trust, powers of attorney, health care directives, and other legal documents
- Utilize interactive legal software (e.g. Inter Active Legal, Wealth Counsel, etc.) to assist in automating document generation
- Check for client conflicts, opening new matters, creating and maintaining files
- Schedule and make all necessary arrangements for meetings, calls, conferences with clients and others; meeting with clients, collecting information
- Gather and digitize financial, legal, and other documents; input, compile, and organize confidential information
- Coordinate signing meetings, notarize documents, and manage e-signatures in Docu Sign or comparable e-tool
- Collaborate with other colleagues, including legal assistants, paralegals, and attorneys in a professional service environment
- Be proficient in legal document preparation, file management, typing/word processing, telephone coverage, scheduling and billing
- Have good organization, time-management and multitasking skills
- Be proficient managing busy calendars between multiple attorneys
- Be proactive in cases with ability to produce high quality documents with short deadlines
- Have excellent organizational, proofreading, and written and oral communication skills, both internally amongst colleagues and externally with clients and other advisors
- Be a Michigan Notary Public or willing to become a Michigan Notary Public
- Five or more years of experience in estate planning and trust/estate administration preferred
- Proficient in legal document preparation, file management, typing/word processing, telephone coverage, scheduling and billing
- Strong organization, time-management, and multitasking abilities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with attorneys and staff
