Summary
This position cares for patients before, during and after angiography, interventional, angiographic cardiac catheterization procedures. Additionally this position performs diagnostic testing for cardiovascular procedures. This includes pre‑procedure assessment, pre‑medication, documentation of cath process, post‑cath care, patient education. Scrubs in for procedures and assists other members of the cardiac catheterization laboratory. Assist in the development/maintenance department protocols.
Responsibilities- (20%) Performs nursing care of the catheterization/angiography patient.
- (20%) Operates equipment, i.e., cardiac output, hemodynamic, pacemakers/ICDs, intraaortic balloon pump, etc. Transfers patients, stocks supplies and performs basic office procedures.
- (20%) Conducts diagnostic nursing procedures according to department protocol. Procedures include stress echocardiogram, routine treadmill exam, sestamibi stress and pharmacologic stress testing, administration of contrast in echocardiograms (agitated saline/DEFFINITY).
- (20%) Evaluates and screens patients for safety prior to performing testing.
- (10%) Scrubs in for procedures with the physician.

- Oversees and maintains use and function of nursing equipment (crash cart, IVAC, O₂, defibrillators, data scopes, and Accu‑Check).
- Coordinates procedures with other departments.
- Keeps updated on the flow of the department by checking on all diagnostic studies being done in and out of the department that require the presence of the Cardio Vascular Service RN.
- Assists in other radiology/cardiology procedures as needed.
- Performs clinical functions as needed.

- Knowledge of critical care nursing as normally acquired through 2 years' experience working in a Medical Center or similar setting.
- Electrophysiology skills as gained through a minimum of 1 year experience working in the electrophysiology lab environment required.
- Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
- Knowledge and operation of intra‑aortic balloon pump.
- Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as trauma, grief and death.
- Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
- Is able to move freely about the facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
- Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
- Some exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow Mid Michigan Health blood borne pathogen and TB testing as required.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, maintain regular and predictable attendance and remain alert.
- Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
- Performs other work‑related duties as assigned, including assisting in other areas of the department as needed.
- Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0‑33% of the workday) lift or carry 21‑50 lbs., frequently (34‑66%) of the workday 20 lbs. and/or walk/stand/push/pull of arm/leg controls and constantly (67‑100%) of the workday 10 lbs.
