- The MDS Manager - Registered Nurse maintains current MDS status of each resident according to state and federal guidelines as required under the Omnibus Reconciliation Act, Medicare PPS + Medicaid payment systems as applicable. Responsible for MDS/RUGS education. Provide MDS education for staff.
- Conducts focused audits to ensure documentation supports the clinical, regulatory, and financial needs of the Resident.
- Functions as a liaison between medical providers, Residents, family, and payers to obtain maximum reimbursement for Resident care services.
- Conducts screening of Residents and medical records to identify those at higher risk of needing more extensive and/or acute care.
- Accurate and timely documentation in the medical record, including clear communication with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Coordination of Resident care conferences as needed to facilitate appropriate services and the level of care.
- Participates in surveys (inspections), and audits conducted by authorized government agencies and payers.
- Previous experience within an LTC/Geriatric care setting is required.
- Knowledge of Nursing and Medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care, including PPS.
- Familiarity with Medicare/Medicaid and payer regulations.
- Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures that are necessary for providing quality care and maintaining a sound operation. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of computer systems, system applications, and other office equipment.
- Previous experience with quality assurance, documentation review, and the appeals process.
- Current NYS licensure as an RN is required. Recommended:
Registered Nurse Assessment Coordinator (RNAC) certification.
