Position: Speech Language Pathologist I
Location: Clare

Summary

May be eligible for sign on bonus up to $10,000. Speech‑Language Pathologist provides professional and comprehensive care. Activities of this position are patient focused and utilize assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in accordance with physical therapy standards, physician orders, and governing policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluates the patient’s function by performing formal/informal testing measures to determine the skeletal, neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular status, developmental, social, and cognitive functions. (20%)
  • Develops a goal specific treatment regime based on assessment data and the patient’s tolerance to carry‑out the treatment plan as prescribed. (20%)
  • Submits a written treatment regime to be included as part of the plan of treatment authorized by and coordinated with the physician. Updates plan of care as needed to reflect changes in patient status. Co‑signs verbal orders received by occupational therapist assistant as necessary. (20%)
  • Devises a schedule of treatment, which is frequency and duration specific to be discussed with patient/family/caregiver and coordinated with clinical support staff. (20%)
  • Educates patient, family, and/or caregiver regarding pathology or condition, patient alternatives, prognosis, and rationale for treatment through forms of rest, exercise, modalities, and other indicated interventions. (20%)
  • Other duties and responsibilities: teaches and demonstrates treatment routines; supervises staff and students; recommends adaptive equipment; documents responses; completes daily documentation for billing; provides treatment intervention and competence; educates in home education program; communicates with internal and external customers; promotes education among staff; participates in team conferences; promotes speech language pathology in community; functions as case manager; demonstrates commitment; provides services to affiliates as needed;

    other duties as assigned.
Certifications and Licensures
  • BLS:
    Basic Life Support (within 1 month of hire or transfer)
  • SLP CCC: SLP Cert Clinical Competence (current certificate within 1 year of hire or transfer; Michigan license required; ASHA membership required)
  • Mich Brd Speech‑Lang Pathology (state of Michigan license)
  • Fingerprinting (within 1 month of hire or transfer)
Required Education

MASTER in SPEECH. (Equivalent experience not specified.)

Other Information

Successful completion of My Michigan Health and affiliate specific orientation and new hire competency.

  • Interpersonal skills needed for effective verbal and written communication in English.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating problem solving, organizational skills, time management, and initiative.
  • Must follow blood borne pathogen and TB testing as required;
    Mandatory OSHA annually.
  • Ability to work where employee may be exposed to communicable diseases; use personal protective equipment correctly.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to demonstrate and teach selected treatment routines to appropriate professional and non-professional individuals.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions

Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief and death; able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex or substitute; moves freely with or without an assisted device; overall vision and hearing required; frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods; may require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching; exposure to blood borne pathogens; handle multiple tasks;

dexterity including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling;
Physical Demand Level: Light, lift 11‑20 lbs occasionally, 10 lbs frequently, walk/stand/push/pull arm/leg controls.
