Overview

Summary:

May be eligible for sign on bonus up to $5,000. The Physical Therapist Assistant provides physical therapy services in accordance with a written plan of care and under the advisement of a supervising Physical Therapist. Activities are patient focused in accordance with physical therapy standards, physician orders, and affiliate policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Provides treatment techniques to facilitate and restore optimal functioning performance specific to patient care area for the physical therapist assistant.
  • Provides adequate feedback to Physical Therapist regarding patient’s progress and reports any unusual reaction or response to the therapeutic program.
  • Documents the patient/family/caregiver response to treatment and changes in patient condition per affiliate documentation policies and regulatory standards.
  • Completes daily documentation necessary for billing procedures per affiliate policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Educates patient/family/caregiver in home education program using relevant and effective teaching methods.
Other duties and responsibilities
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication with all internal and external customers to maximize quality of patient care, including coordination with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Promotes education and development among staff, students, and other health care providers using effective teaching methods.
  • Promotes process improvement and assists with program development.
  • Provides feedback in team conferences and interdisciplinary meetings as appropriate.
  • Promotes physical therapy within My Michigan Health and service area, including community education.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and affiliate information per policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Basic Life Support

Experience, Training and Skills
  • Successful completion of My Michigan Health and affiliate-specific orientation and new hire competency.
  • Interpersonal skills for effective verbal and written communication in English with individuals and groups at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently with problem-solving, organizational, time-management skills and initiative.
  • Mandatory OSHA training; annual completion required per Exposure Control Plan.
  • Ability to work with individuals and groups; communicate ideas clearly.
  • Ability to work where exposure to communicable diseases exists and to correctly use PPE.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with reasonable accommodation and to demonstrate and teach selected treatment routines to appropriate professionals and non-professionals.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief and death; wear PPE as required including latex or substitutes.
  • Move freely about the facility with/without assistive devices and perform job duties as outlined.
  • Full vision and hearing capability; frequently sit/stand/walk; may require postural changes.
  • Exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material; follow safety protocols.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, and maintain regular attendance.
  • Physical demand level:
