Duties
Major Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Serve as a project leader for natural resource management projects.
- Conduct compliance for biocontrol of forest pests.
- Collect GPS and GIS data.
- Establish forest restoration plans.
- Lead multiple field crews organizing, scheduling, and executing established natural resource projects.
Government Housing may be available.

You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. - Uniform

You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 8 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. - Minimum Age Requirement
:
Applicants must be at least (1) 18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education;
or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement (01/23/2026) unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week).
BASIC REQUIREMENT
:
To qualify for a GS-0460 Forestry position, you must possess at least one of the following basic requirements:
- A full four‑year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in forestry; or a related subject‑matter field that included a total of at least 30 semester hours in any combination of biological, physical, or mathematical sciences or engineering, of which at least 24 semester hours of coursework were in forestry. The curriculum must have been sufficiently diversified to include courses in each of the following areas:
- Management of Renewable Resources
- Forest Biology
- Forest Resource Measurements and Inventory
- A combination of education and experience that includes courses equivalent to a major in forestry, or at least 30 semester hours in any combination of biological, physical, or mathematical sciences or engineering, of which at least 24 semester hours were in forestry, with a sufficiently diversified curriculum as described above.
