A sworn Police Officer enforces laws and patrols authorized areas in a professional, responsive, and efficient manner. In partnership with the community, a Police Officer is responsible for maintaining order in Bloomfield Township, protecting life and property, performing investigations, preventing crime, preserving the peace, regulating traffic, rendering aid, providing information to citizens, and performing related work as required. Shift assignments include weekends, holidays, days, nights or special hours as required.

• Minimum 18 years of age
• U.S. Citizen
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (exceptionally well‑qualified applicants may apply in their senior year of college)
• Weight and height proportionate as indicated by accepted medical standards
• Eyesight corrected to 20/20
• No felony convictions
• Minimal traffic record
• Passed MCOLES pre‑employment batteries and be certifiable by MCOLES
• Pass a department physical exam
• Become an Oakland County resident or live within a county that borders Oakland County within one year of official appointment or hiring date
• Pass a psychological test by a licensed psychologist selected by Bloomfield Township
• Pass a drug screen

Applicants must pass an EMPCO entry‑level police officer written examination prior to any oral interview (if offered).

  Employees receive Cigna PPO coverage with low premiums—$50/single or $100/family per pay period—annual deductibles of $2,000/single and $4,000/family. Opt‑out incentives include $3,000 (single) or $6,000 (family). Additional health perks include dental, vision, telehealth, and wellness rewards up to $150. The Township also contributes to a Health Savings Account: $1,500 for singles and $3,000 for families.

  The Township provides $50,000 employee life insurance with a $50,000 accidental death/dismemberment rider, along with $5,000 coverage for your spouse and $2,500 for dependent children. The Short‑Term Disability benefit includes 70% of weekly pay and the Long‑Term Disability benefit is 66.67% of monthly pay, at no cost to you.

  The Township contributes 14% to a defined contribution plan (401(a)) that is fully vested after 7 years. A retiree health savings plan with a $3,000 annual contribution for the first 5 years by the Township and a mandatory 3% employee contribution. This benefit increases to $4,500 a year for years 5 to 15, and then $6,000 per year over 15 years of service.
