Business Unit Controller

A great UHY client is seeking a Business Unit Controller to join their team. The ideal candidate will have extensive global finance experience, strong financial planning and analysis expertise, and a background in manufacturing or packaging environments.

The Business Unit Controller role reports to the VP Finance & Controller. This position will lead global financial controlling, reporting, shared services accounting and finance functions, financial planning and analysis processes, and internal controls activities while ensuring compliance with US GAAP and company policies. This role also supports strategic initiatives, business improvement projects, M&A activities, and proactive financial decision-making.

• Drive out performance planning, financial initiatives, and best practice implementation across business units and functions.
• Partner with finance leadership and global management to optimize the balance sheet, including cash flow, working capital, and capital expenditures.
• Ensure sound financial management of operations, including treasury, cash flow management, and financial planning.
• Act as a change agent within the finance organization by identifying and implementing process improvements and best practices.
• Provide financial and economic guidance to global and business unit leadership to support business strategy execution.
• Deliver insights on profitability, cost management, cash flow, taxes, funding optimization, and capital utilization.
• Ensure the business leverages internal and external expertise related to funding, taxation, accounting practices, and financial modeling.
• Oversee all accounting and reporting systems to ensure accurate and timely delivery of monthly actuals, forecasts, budgets, and strategic plans.
• Coordinate with finance leadership, business unit management, and stakeholders to meet reporting and information needs.
• Lead financial modeling processes for annual strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting cycles.
• Oversee and continuously improve monthly close, consolidation, and reporting processes.
• Develop and deliver management financial and operational performance reporting.
• Support quarterly reporting requirements and preparation of executive reporting materials and presentations.
• Serve as finance lead for acquisition integration work streams and special projects.
• Provide support for LATAM accounting, reporting, and tax activities as needed.
• Lead North America shared services accounting and finance functions servicing multiple business units.
• Provide technical accounting guidance for complex and non-standard transactions.
• Oversee the internal controls environment in coordination with shared services, finance leadership, and auditors.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, US GAAP, and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate external audit engagements and semi-annual reporting and statutory close activities.
• Partner with Group Tax on tax reporting, compliance, and exposure optimization.
• Coordinate with Treasury and business units to manage FX exposures and financing programs.
• Lead, manage, and develop a team of direct and indirect reports, fostering engagement and internal growth.
• Attract, retain, and develop talent while building bench strength for future leadership opportunities.
• Collaborate with global functional leaders across HR, IT, Legal, Procurement, R&D, and Strategy.
• Support restructuring programs, working capital initiatives, footprint assessments, and business improvement efforts.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Minimum undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance required; MBA preferred.
• Professional certification such as CPA, CA, CMA, or similar preferred.
• 12+ years of broad finance experience in an international environment, including manufacturing exposure.
• 3–5 years of experience in a similar leadership capacity.
• Multi-site financial management experience required.
• Experience in plastics or packaging industry preferred.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
• Effective communicator at all organizational levels with strong presentation, written, and influencing skills.
• Experience with due diligence and acquisition integration is desirable.
• Experience working with international audit firms required.
• Knowledge of South/Central America and Mexico finance operations preferred.
• Strong financial reporting, consolidation, and FP&A expertise in a multinational public company setting.
• Experience managing shared services and transactional accounting functions.
• Strong internal controls and compliance experience.
