The Assistant Controller position reports to the CFO and is responsible for maintaining an adequate system of accounting records, a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, ensure that reported results comply with GAAP, and interact with operational management and third parties. This is a key role within the department that offers a lot of mobility.

Assistant Controller Responsibilities:

  • Leading and developing the five team members
  • Serving the management team with timely, relevant information to drive business decisions
  • Active participation with company management as an accounting department representative
  • Financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
  • Treasury management
  • Fixed assets
  • Internal controls over financial reporting
  • Month end close
  • Key liaison to auditors, tax advisors and other outside parties
  • Administer computerized accounting systems
  • Ensure compliance with governmental reporting requirements
  • Other tasks and special projects as assigned by management

Assistant Controller Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 4+ years of experience
  • Leadership experience (preferred)
  • CPA is highly preferred
  • High level of proficiency in accounting systems. Great Plains Dynamics is a strong plus.
  • Experience managing and developing financial reporting and internal controls.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration and interpersonal skills required for managing in a complex environment, including leading change, building culture, and coaching, development and growth of individuals and teams.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, project management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and self-review of work product.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management professionally and confidentially.
  • Acquisition accounting and integration experience is also a distinct plus.
