The Assistant Controller position reports to the CFO and is responsible for maintaining an adequate system of accounting records, a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, ensure that reported results comply with GAAP, and interact with operational management and third parties. This is a key role within the department that offers a lot of mobility.
Assistant Controller Responsibilities:
- Leading and developing the five team members
- Serving the management team with timely, relevant information to drive business decisions
- Active participation with company management as an accounting department representative
- Financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
- Treasury management
- Fixed assets
- Internal controls over financial reporting
- Month end close
- Key liaison to auditors, tax advisors and other outside parties
- Administer computerized accounting systems
- Ensure compliance with governmental reporting requirements
- Other tasks and special projects as assigned by management
Assistant Controller Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree
- 4+ years of experience
- Leadership experience (preferred)
- CPA is highly preferred
- High level of proficiency in accounting systems. Great Plains Dynamics is a strong plus.
- Experience managing and developing financial reporting and internal controls.
- Strong leadership, collaboration and interpersonal skills required for managing in a complex environment, including leading change, building culture, and coaching, development and growth of individuals and teams.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, project management, organizational, and communication skills.
- High level of attention to detail and self-review of work product.
- Ability to interact with all levels of management professionally and confidentially.
- Acquisition accounting and integration experience is also a distinct plus.
