Chief Accounting Officer

Location: Northville

A great UHY client is seeking a Chief Accounting Officer for a multi-billion dollar global automotive manufacturing client to join their team. The ideal candidate will be a CPA with significant Big Four accounting experience, a strong leadership background, deep expertise in GAAP and SEC reporting, and experience with reporting complex transactions. This role requires a strategic, hands‑on leader who can partner effectively with executive leadership and oversee sophisticated accounting operations.

The Chief Accounting Officer role is an onsite position. This is a client direct hire role with a large Tier One Automotive Supplier, and relocation to the SE Michigan area can be provided.

• Lead the Corporate Accounting function to ensure timely, accurate internal and external financial reporting

• Oversee all SEC reporting activities, including 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K filings

• Manage relationships with internal and external auditors and coordinate annual audits

• Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies and procedures in accordance with U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements

• Establish and oversee internal controls and ensure SOX compliance

• Oversee the monthly close process, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records

• Monitor company spending and ensure adherence to budgetary and approval guidelines

• Prepare regulatory reports and respond to inquiries from governing agencies

• Provide financial analysis, insights, and reporting to support executive decision‑making

• Lead strategic planning, financial modeling, and long‑term forecasting initiatives

• Support organizational strategy, goal setting, and continuous improvement initiatives

Chief Accounting Officer Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required

• Master’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred

• CPA certification required

• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including:

• At least 5 years with a Big Four accounting firm

• Minimum of 8 years in managerial or leadership accounting roles

• Extensive experience with U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting

• Proven ability to lead teams and operate in complex business environments

• Strong analytical, project management, and problem‑solving skills

• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

• Demonstrated ability to drive change and support strategic initiatives

• High level of integrity, professionalism, and organizational skill
