Tooling Engineer

Mid‑America Machining is hiring a talented engineer. The Tooling Engineer focuses on the design and development of high‑quality extrusion blow molds. You will work directly with Sales, Customers, and Manufacturing to ensure molds meet precise specifications.

• Design molds including cooling channels, venting, scrap chambers, neck finishes, and adapt molds to customer blow mold platforms.
• Use Solid Works 2024 to develop 2D sketches and 3D models.
• Apply historical shrink rates using Excel‑driven design tables to yield accurate container dimensions.
• Design die tooling for optimal wall thickness.
• Collaborate with the team to refine and improve mold designs.

• 5+ years in tooling or mold design.
• Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
• Proficient in Solid Works (and/or NX).
• Strong mechanical skills and knowledge of extrusion blow mold equipment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork.

The Product Design Engineer focuses on designing and developing new bottles and consumer packaging. You will work closely with Sales, Customers, and Manufacturing to create functional and visually appealing products.

• Gather package requirements: volume, fill level, overflow, bottle dimensions, neck finish, label specifications.
• Identify and qualify performance requirements, such as top‑load and drop tests.
• Conduct bottle testing and measurements in our lab using tools like optical comparators, digital height gauges, calipers, and Magna Mike.
• Use Solid Works 2024 to create 2D sketches, 3D models, and 3D printed prototypes.
• Utilize Faro Arm laser scanning with Polyworks software for reverse engineering projects.

• 5+ years in product or packaging design.
• Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Product Design Engineering Technology, Packaging Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Proficient in Solid Works (and/or NX).
• Strong mechanical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork.
• Experience with Faro Arm & Polyworks is a plus.
