Overview

Tri-Mation has a great opportunity for an experienced Solid Works Designer/Lead, in custom machine building; preferably in automation to join our team. You need to have a collaborative mindset and want to positively work as a team; you know how to work independently but also have self-awareness to ask for help when needed; you need to be hungry to learn and be proactive.

We are looking for someone with the potential to become a lead to handle larger projects with multi designers. Some work may be at Proos in Grand Rapids.

Responsibilities
  • Support Design Department with development and implementation, prioritization of work and execution of projects delivered on-time, within the scope and on budget
  • Conceptualize and design specialty machines
  • Customer contact from kick-off to design approval
  • Oversee program needs, customer expectations and project add-ons from beginning to end
  • Track timeline and budgets; monitor progress
  • Develop BOM from the design
  • Research and select sensors, and other purchased components
  • Design with part variation and tolerancing in mind
  • Design for manufacturability using machining techniques
  • Create related engineering documentation
  • Be an active team player to support, accept responsibility and collaborate with the team; have effective skills in interpersonal communication, problem solving, critical thinking, empathy, and building relationships; and use independent judgment, creativity, and initiative
  • Travel less than 5%; same day and overnight; may have occasional international travel
  • May mentor interns and co-op students
  • Qualifications
  • Experience and working knowledge of Solid Works, GD&T, MS Office, and other project tracking modules
  • Ability to plan, develop, schedule, and coordinate in-depth and up-to-date technical knowledge
  • Ability to read and have a good understanding of blueprints
  • Experience leading a team
