Position: Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician
Location: Ludington

Situated in Ludington, Michigan, the Michigan Power facility is a 125 MW 1x1 combined cycle cogeneration plant featuring a single Frame 7EA gas turbine. This advanced facility efficiently generates electricity through a sophisticated combined cycle process, showcasing innovation in power generation. Opportunity Summary

The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician at the Michigan Power Facility performs and supports plant operations, including start-up, normal operation, and shutdown, to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient generation. This role operates and monitors turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems, responds to alarms, assists with troubleshooting and maintenance, completes logs and documentation, and participates in shift turnovers. The O&M Technician also supports emergency operations, participates in training and CRO qualification activities, and adheres to all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements to maintain compliance and a strong safety culture.

Your scope of responsibility as O&M Technician will include the following primary functions:
  • Perform and support plant operations to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient generation, while following established procedures and maintaining regulatory compliance.
  • Operate and monitor combustion turbines, HRSGs, steam turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems, including start-up and shutdown procedures, adjusting controls to maintain steam conditions, fuel supply, and efficient combustion, while responding to alarms and proactively monitoring equipment for developing issues.
  • Perform operational duties and complete required training and evaluations to obtain and maintain Control Room Operator (CRO) qualification, as applicable.
  • Support emergency operations to help maintain electric service and protect station equipment, responding safely to abnormal or upset conditions.
  • Report plant abnormalities and upset conditions to Operations and/or Maintenance management and assist with corrective actions as directed.
  • Participate in shift turnovers, clearly communicating plant conditions, operating status, and outstanding issues.
  • Complete daily logs and plant records, including electrical output, steam output, emissions, fuel and water consumption, and heat rates, in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Review logs and records to verify equipment status, tag-out conditions, and required administrative controls.
  • Maintain plant manuals, technical references, diagrams, and maintenance records as assigned.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and diagnosis of equipment issues and support maintenance activities during shifts and outages, including Lockout/Tagout assistance, equipment identification, basic troubleshooting, and work request preparation, working closely with maintenance personnel.
  • Receive and carry out marketing dispatcher instructions in accordance with facility operating guidelines.
  • Support safe work execution by adhering to company safety and environmental policies, assisting with hazardous work permits and Lockout/Tagout activities, and actively participating in NAES Safety, Environmental, and Regulatory Compliance Programs.
  • Provide operational support to team members during changing plant conditions and assist with on-the-job training and knowledge sharing to support team development and operational consistency.
  • Execute tasks assigned by the Operations and/or Maintenance Manager to support plant operations.
