Reed City High School is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Special Education Teacher for an internal assignment. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusive practices and supporting students with disabilities through individualized programming, collaboration with staff and families, and targeted instruction. This position includes developing and monitoring IEPs and providing services that help students reach academic, social-emotional, and post-secondary goals.
Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for assigned students.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to ensure appropriate accommodations and inclusive learning opportunities.
- Collect and analyze student performance data to monitor progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Provide direct instruction and support in a one-on-one setting.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to student progress, behavior, and family communication.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional learning, and training opportunities to strengthen instructional practices.
- Serve as an advocate for students by supporting communication between school teams and families.
- Implement behavior support strategies that promote positive student engagement and social-emotional growth.
- Support transition planning for students preparing for post-secondary education, employment, or community-based programming.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local special education requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Valid Michigan Special Education teaching certification (or appropriate endorsement).
- Experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting.
- Knowledge of IEP development, implementation, and best practices in special education.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with students, families, and staff.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and support a wide range of student learning needs.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to maintaining a supportive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
