POSITION DESCRIPTION

Complement, supplement and reinforce students' instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and regular education classrooms.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have ability to work with students with physical, cognitive, emotional, learning and/or development disabilities
  • Previous experience working with this age special education student is preferred.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with various school officials, principals, teachers and office personnel.
  • Must possess initiative to accept and carry out varied assignments along with a consistent, systematic approach to the tasks performed.
  • Must be willing to be training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Techniques.
  • Must be willing to use Nonviolent Crisis Intervention skills to physically manage students who are physically escalated as directed by the teacher/administrator.
  • Other duties assigned by the special education teacher or the building principal
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Complement, supplement and reinforce student's instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and regular education classrooms.
  • Assist with the preparation of material; clean up after students, etc.
  • Assist with the general supervision of the students including lunchtime, recess time, etc.
  • On an as needed basis para-professional employees may be required to attend to a student whose needs include routine medical procedure or assistance with regular hygiene.
EDUCATION and/or

EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma and/or related experience.
LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL AND REASONING

SKILLS:

Ability to speak and write effectively. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
