Summary

Michigan Technological University is seeking a Student Wellness Coordinator to work closely with the Center for Student Mental Health and Well‑being (CSMHW) outreach team. The coordinator’s focus is on educating students on physical health, nutrition, sleep hygiene, social norms, healthy relationships, and alcohol & other drug prevention while encouraging the student community to live a healthy, balanced lifestyle. The Student Wellness Coordinator fosters collaboration for wellness activities, health promotion, and prevention with other areas across campus and supports a prevention‑conscious culture.

Responsibilities

and Essential Duties

Students will develop and implement wellness programs, collaborate with campus partners, and promote a culture of health and prevention across campus.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Health Education, Recreation, Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Policy, Human Factors, Business, Marketing or other related fields, completed within 6 months of hire.
Required Experience
  • Experience in program development, implementation, promotion and evaluation (ideally related to health and well‑being) or other similar experience.
Desirable

Education and/or Experience
  • Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Health Education, Recreation, Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Policy, or related field.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience with alcohol and other drug education, programming, and assessment.
  • Experience creating and delivering engaging presentations for small and large audiences.
  • Health and Wellness Certification in the field or specific area (various certifications apply).
  • Experience supervising student and professional staff.
  • Certification as a NASPA Certified Peer Educator Facilitator.
  • Certification as a personal trainer.
  • Experience writing grant proposals.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and or Abilities
  • Experience using personal computers, email, calendars, word processing, spreadsheets, task management and other software.
  • Demonstrated team building, networking, effective communication skills, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of constituents.
  • Proven competence in managing multiple tasks and competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and or Abilities
  • Student knowledge of generational college students and ability to design generation‑ and audience‑specific programs/events/services.
  • Accountability: experience applying formative, summative, qualitative, and/or quantitative methodologies to assessing student learning outcomes and/or evaluating programs and services.
  • Branding experience: ability to design brochures, event flyers, and/or newsletters.
