Position SummaryThe Career Development Assistant (level
1) will support the Office of Career Development. This entry‑level position is designed to provide hands‑on experience in administrative and career services functions, while allowing students to build practical skills in communication, event planning, and student engagement.
- High school diploma or GED
- Basic clerical skills, computer skills
- Excellent customer service and communication abilities
- Ability to work in person up to 20 hours per week
- Ability to manage time effectively, and work independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills, creativity, and a professional attitude.
- Experience with Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Canva or other design platforms.
- Ability to work on Mondays and Wednesdays during the times of 9:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. within the 10‑20 hour weekly schedule.
- Plan and complete career‑related projects to develop print and digital resources for students.
- Help coordinate and execute campus events, including the annual Spring Career Fair.
- Greet and assist students through the career services intake process.
- Participate in department meetings and brainstorming sessions, with the opportunity to attend community‑based meetings.
- Maintain SMC’s online career services platform, Handshake, by updating information, cleaning out past student accounts, posting positions for employers, and sending communication.
- Prepare, maintain, and organize office materials and resources.
You must be enrolled at the College on a full‑time or part‑time basis (minimum of 6 credit hours during fall and spring semesters and 3 credit hours during the summer semester); contact hours will not be used to meet the 6 credit hour minimum.
High‑school students who are dual enrolled are eligible for student employment. You must also meet the credit hour requirement.
OR
You must be enrolled or continuing your education with a four‑year College partner, on the campus of SMC, and be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours and at least 1 SMC credit hour during the fall and spring semesters and 3 credit hours and at least 1 SMC credit hour during the summer semester.
All student employees must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 to be eligible for student employment.
Physical Requirements- Talking – expressing or exchanging ideas by the spoken word.
- Hearing – perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make discriminations in sound.
- Repetitive motion – substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Light work – exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Visual acuity – required for preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and extensive reading.
