ResponsibilitiesProvide dental services to prisoners at the assigned correctional facility and Northern Facility Dental Clinics as assigned. Services include, but are not limited to: diagnosis, operative/restorative, surgical (including extractions), endodontic, and prosthetic treatment. Document and record patient treatment information in accordance with Northern Facilities Dental Program guidelines to ensure performance compliance of supervised dental staff and to maintain the facility Dental Clinic operational modalities at MDOC Northern Facilities Dental Program standards.
EducationPossession of a Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctorate of Medical Dentistry (DMD) degree.
ExperienceNo specific type or amount of experience is required.
Licesure/RegulatoryMichigan licensure as a dentist. The Department of Corrections will not hire individuals who have been convicted of a felony or who have felony charges pending, in accordance with Public Act 140 of the Public Acts of 1996.

The Department of Corrections may screen applicants with felony records in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants with misdemeanor or felony convictions are ineligible for employment until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation. Employment in the state classified service requires high ethical standards; all employees must meet these standards. Employees must report any possible conflict of interest and be prepared to respond to related questions in the application process.

New hires and returning MDOC employees who have been away for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET)—40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on offender contact level and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
