POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Manager of Museum Education, the Visitor Services Associate is the first point of contact for all Museum guests. Associates greet and welcome guests, give tours, answer the phone, process Admissions and Gift Store sales, and assist in various projects in the museum and in archives.

WORK

SCHEDULE:

Part-time (Tuesday-Saturday, 12 to 18 hours per week average) Must have Saturday availability (8:30 AM to 2:00 PM)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

VISITOR SERVICES

  • Oversee visitors within the Museum, monitoring safety and participation
  • Assist in opening and closing duties each day
  • Process gift store and admissions sales
  • Assist in order fulfillment, restocking, and other basic gift store functions
  • Greet and welcome guests
  • Answer questions and address visitor complaints
  • Answer phone and respond to emails
  • Maintain clean/tidy front desk, gift store, exhibits, and other Museum spaces
  • Front desk duties during occasional evening and weekend events
  • Event and program set-up and clean-up duties
  • Duties otherwise assigned
  • Give in-person guided tours of the Museum, for field trips and other groups
  • Facilitate crafts, games, and other activities
  • Organize and develop virtual and in-person activities for students and families

EDUCATION/

QUALIFICATIONS:

Tour guide, retail, service industry, public speaking, or performance experience preferred.

SKILLS:

  • A guest-oriented approach is essential.
  • Work well with teams.
  • Ability to represent the Oklahoma Hall of Fame and Gaylord-Pickens Museum in a consistently positive and professional manner to internal and external audiences.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand; must have visual acuity to read and draft reports, memorandums, and other printed matter, and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee will work year-round in both an office environment and outdoors. The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet to loud; situations characteristic to working with school-age children are common; and travel to other sites within the metropolitan area are possible.
