Reports To: Materials Manager
Status: Full Time/Salary-Exempt (45-50 hours/week; additional hours as needed to support organization and individual goals)
Job Requirements- Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain Mgmt., or related Field or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of purchasing experience
- Strong negotiation, communication, and organization skills
- Experience with MRP systems & Microsoft Office
- Understanding of automotive requirements (PPAP, IATF 16949)
- Experience with plastics commodities
- 5+ years progressive purchasing experience
- Lean/Kaizen exposure
- Familiarity with EDI
- Advanced computer skills.
The Buyer role is responsible for developing, executing, and maintaining purchasing strategies for key direct materials and tooling that support Valley operations. You will manage sourcing events, negotiate material and tooling costs, optimize supplier performance, and ensure uninterrupted supply for a high-mix automotive manufacturing environment. You will own your commodities, partner cross‑functionally with operations, engineering, and quality, and contribute to supplier selection and long‑term sourcing direction.
EssentialJob Functions
- Lead sourcing and purchasing for direct materials: plastic resin, textiles, corrugated packaging, and tooling
- Manage a supplier base of 40–100 suppliers
- Run RFQs, negotiate pricing, and support cost targets
- Maintain and update the approved supplier list
- Create and track supplier scorecards
- Place production purchase orders using MRP
- Ensure pricing accuracy and support budget targets
- Collaborate daily with Operations, Engineering, and Quality
- Support IATF, PPAP, and documentation requirements
- Identify cost‑saving and process‑improvement opportunities
- Utilize ERP Systems and data analytics to drive informed decision making.
- Coordinate with legal and compliance teams to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
