Program Manager (Business Professor) (Contract)

Join Xcel Energy’s growing department in a newly created role where you can make an immediate and lasting impact on enterprise billing operations. This position is offered on a contract basis and provides hybrid work flexibility while maintaining strong team connections.

Job Summary

This role serves as a critical bridge between enterprise billing operations and cross‑functional business teams. You will own essential billing workflows, manage vendor integrations across multiple platforms, and deliver high‑quality reporting that drives operational excellence. Your responsibilities include balancing program support with process improvement initiatives and ensuring seamless billing operations across all organizational levels. The position offers significant visibility and impact, supporting enterprise‑wide billing programs that touch multiple value streams, including Distribution, Transmission, Gas, and Nuclear operations.

Responsibilities
  • Own and manage day‑to‑day Service Entry Sheet billing workflows and WO2

    Pay program support activities.
  • Coordinate vendor onboarding into billing platforms, including system ticket management, biller training, and conversion process support.
  • Re‑create and validate vendor invoices within enterprise systems and resolve blocked invoices, funding adjustments, and line‑item discrepancies.
  • Serve as primary liaison between Accounts Payable planners, buyers, business units, and vendor partners.
  • Support quarterly vendor onboarding waves and manage ongoing vendor transitions throughout the year.
  • Run, maintain, and automate daily and weekly billing and program reports to track performance metrics.
  • Analyze billing performance data, vendor metrics, and process trends to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Deliver actionable insights and recommendations to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and support small to medium projects or sub‑components of larger strategic initiatives.
  • Track project milestones, risks, and deliverables across multiple operational value streams.
  • Maintain and manage SharePoint sites, documentation repositories, and audit compliance processes.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration across Accounts Payable, Procurement, IT, and operational teams.
  • Respond quickly to stakeholder issues and provide proactive support to maintain high customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure alignment with standard project management methodologies and organizational compliance standards.
Skills
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel for complex data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong experience with SAP, particularly Service Entry Sheet billing processes.
  • Expertise in Business Objects for report creation and data extraction.
  • Proficiency with SharePoint for documentation management and collaboration.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Outstanding organizational skills with ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data validation and invoice processing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams and diverse stakeholders.
  • Customer‑focused mindset with proactive approach to issue resolution.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to manage shifting priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience with Power BI, Power Apps, or AI‑enabled reporting tools preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in program support, billing coordination, procurement operations, or related operational roles.
  • Demonstrated background working cross‑functionally across multiple teams and organizational levels.
  • Proven experience supporting or managing operational billing workflows.
  • Experience onboarding vendors and supporting billing systems across varied business areas preferred.
  • Utility operations, utility billing, or similar industry experience highly desirable.
  • Program or project management experience, either formal or informal, is a plus.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Operations Management, or related field preferred.

Pay Rate Range: $53 – $73 USD per hour.
