Position SummaryWe are seeking a motivated Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Intern to support critical documentation, compliance, and program activities at our Michigan City B1 facility. This intern will assist with medical records organization, document control, and OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) audit preparation. The role offers hands‑on experience in EHS and a unique opportunity to support preparations for an official OSHA VPP audit in August.
Key Responsibilities Medical Records Project- Combine medical records including injuries, medical clearances, and hearing tests into one consolidated file for each employee
- Remove and organize files for employees no longer with HGAP
- Prepare and send appropriate records to Iron Mountain for long‑term storage
- Assist in organizing program documents and records such as training logs, injury reports, inspection documentation, and program files
- Move and centralize documents into a secure and accessible location for OSHA auditors
- Support general audit readiness tasks leading up to the August VPP audit
- Gain exposure to Chemical Safety, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and Medical Records processes
- Support broader EHS initiatives as assigned
Upon completing this internship, the student will gain:
- Practical knowledge of Environmental, Health & Safety programs in an industrial environment
- Hands‑on experience with medical records management and compliance documentation
- Understanding of Chemical Safety programs and Job Hazard Analysis processes
- Exposure to regulatory audit preparation and documentation control
- Knowledge of the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program and audit requirements
This internship will help the student:
- Build foundational EHS and compliance skills
- Gain meaningful hands‑on experience in a real manufacturing environment
- Strengthening organizational, analytical, and documentation management abilities
- Explore potential career paths in occupational safety, compliance, environmental programs, and industrial health
- Gain rare early‑career exposure to an OSHA VPP audit process
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point
- Interest or experience in Environmental, Health & Safety
- Ability to work with confidential files and maintain accuracy
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Clear and professional communication
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Willingness to learn and support multiple aspects of the EHS program
- Bachelor’s degree in Progress – Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or related discipline
