Position OverviewWe are looking for a candidate to fill the short‑term position of Construction Observer for a project in Ashtabula, OH
. This could be a great opportunity for those retired and looking for work on a project basis.
Compensation: 25+ per hour based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.
Construction Observer Essential Functions- Review signed contract agreements between contractor and the water utility company for construction project guidelines.
- When renewing or replacing waterlines, check service lines for type of setting (inside meter or pit meter), whether it is a long or short service and the total number of service connections.
- Complete a follow‑up review of prints and a field check of all plans designed by the water utility company when engineering has been completed.
- Review video tape of the project prior to the start of construction.
- Attend pre‑construction meetings and complete daily inspections of construction of waterlines including water utility company lines and developer projects to ensure compliance with the water utility company’s standards and regulations.
- Locate main line valves and verify operation to ensure shut down.
- Perform observations on all large taps on the water utility company’s waterlines.
- Verify delivery of all material when ordered by the water utility company to ensure accuracy of delivery. Also check materials out of the water utility company stock yard when picked up by the contractor and charge out materials from the water utility company stock to ensure accuracy of inventory.
- Prepare valve cards and hydrant cards, and provide numbering and placement on the distribution map.
- Perform filling of all lines, witness pressure tests, flush and sample for bacteria testing. Deliver the samples to the filter plant afterward.
- Place a new main in service and notify the fire department along with local officials.
- Maintain daily inspection reports, mileage reports and time ticks for every project.
- Complete “as‑built” documentation per the water utility company guidelines.
- Occasionally travel to other project locations within Ohio.
- Understanding of construction trades and installation work
- Understanding of engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings
- Desire to innovate and solve difficult problems from inception to final deliverable
- Ability to work independently and in team settings
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree preferred.
Qualifications- 3+ years of fabrication, installation and/or construction related experience, required.
- Experience with lead water line replacement and lead piping documentation required.
- Ability to pass background checks, drug tests and MVR check.
- Must be able to traverse a worksite in different types of weather and bend, climb, stretch, reach, and lean to make observations.
- Understands the exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
