MobileDiesel Technician Level II
The Mobile Diesel Technician II will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventive maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. Under the supervision of a Sr. Mobile Diesel Technician or higher, the technician can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs. The role requires continuous learning of advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques while complying with all company policies and achieving high‑level performance metrics.
DUTIES- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile field environment.
- Execute minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment: electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, air conditioning, fan clutch, engine electronics, steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using handheld computers, pressure gauges, and other test instruments.
- Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and determine the accuracy and relevance of information using sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory, reconcile company‑issued service truck equipment, and maintain safety checks, pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
- Work effectively with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
- Prioritize concurrent tasks and manage time allocation efficiently.
- Utilize hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work accurately, uploading pictures, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using the company‑issued iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Complete DOT forms and all required documentation timely and accurately.
- Maintain independence and manage daily schedule.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and meet standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and support via email or phone for approvals, purchase orders, and RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- High School Diploma or GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field; alternative qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or certification beyond HS plus 5 years’ experience.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for the duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
- Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and a DOT physical (or a current DOT medical card with >4 months validity). Candidates must be at least 21 years old.
