Position Summary: Under general supervision, the Exhibit Technician I installs new exhibits, performs daily maintenance, and reviews the safe operation of the museum’s exhibits. The technican collaborates with internal and external crews and supports after‑hours and weekend events.
Responsibilities- Execute a daily task list for all portions of the museum, including installation, repairs, upkeep of exhibit components, painting, cleaning, and attention to lighting.
- Participate in exhibit and building projects, including general prototyping, fabrication, and installation.
- Assist in the installation and breakdown of traveling and permanent exhibits, including loading/unloading of tractor‑trailers with forklifts, personnel lifts, dollies, Johnson bars, lift gates, and other common equipment.
- Maintain the work environment of the Exhibit Shop and loading areas, including tool condition and efficient material storage.
- Keep shop and work areas organized, clean, well‑lit, and free of unnecessary items.
- Perform minor troubleshooting and repairs to electronic or mechanical devices.
- Maintain museum lighting and assist with lighting installations.
- Interact with museum visitors and serve as a facilitator for program activities related to “making.”
- Work independently with little supervision to support ude‑hours and weekend events.
- Maintain flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Maintain diary entries documenting the history of all exhibits and maintain exhibit files related to maintenance and safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Vocational or technical education preferred.
- Working knowledge of trade tools (welding equipment, paint equipment, shop machines, and power tools) preferred.
- Willingness to work a prior‑established schedule, including weekends and evenings, when needed.
- Bilingual proficiency preferred (Spanish/English/Creole).
- Proficiency in the safe use of designated tools.
- Familiarity with electronic exhibit mechanisms (audio/video systems, specialized lighting, theatrical effects lighting, etc.).
- Ability to retrieve and read emails.
Regular tasks include sitting, handling, talking, and hearing. Standing, walking, climbing, and reaching are required for prolonged periods. Lifting or moving 50–70 pounds occasionally. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Must work in high and low places, near fiberglass insulation, under sinks, and 発套座帯.
Work EnvironmentThe work occurs both indoors and outdoors in a public attraction facility, with potential travel to sites. Employees may encounter hazardous or toxic substances, electrical shock, noise, and weather conditions such as wind, rain, cold, and heat.
