Job Summary
The Lead Security Officer provides a safe and secure environment for students, staff, patients, and visitors on the Medical Campus, continually identifying potential risks and taking immediate action to eliminate them. The role also engages in loss and crime prevention to protect university assets.
Core Responsibilities- Controls building access and property removal.
- Maintains civil law and order, preventing damage due to fire, theft, or negligent acts.
- Responds to building alarm signals and protects vehicles parked in university parking spaces.
- Assists in monitoring failures or malfunctions of electrical and utility systems.
- Detects, reports, and addresses campus safety problems.
- Prepares accurate and up‑to‑date reports.
- Assists staff, students, patients, and visitors by providing directions and assistance.
- Monitors unauthorized individuals, escorts them from the premises or calls emergency services.
- Adheres to university and unit‑level policies and procedures, safeguarding university assets.
- Provide consistent, comprehensive training for all existing and new security officers.
- Assist with officer development, mentorship, and performance monitoring.
- Ensure enforcement of university department policies and procedures.
- Respond to after‑hour monitoring of electrical/utility failures and campus safety issues.
- Apply good judgment to enforce policies fairly and without bias.
- Prepare clear written reports, kept up to date before shift end.
- Assist shift scheduling and serve as supervisor in absence of shift supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum 5 years relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes- Attention to detail and accurate completion of assignments.
- Good judgment and clear thinking under stress during emergency situations.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Discretion in handling confidential information.
- Willingness to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
- Commitment to the university’s core values.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively.
- Proficiency in computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office).
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle; valid Florida driver’s license.
Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
