Scope of the Job

At Soho House, a Prep Cook I is responsible for setting up workstations in the kitchen and preparing ingredients for the cooking process. A Prep Cook II performs basic cooking duties, monitors stock levels, and takes on culinary tasks as they arise. A successful Prep Cook II will be able to understand and be willing to comply with food and sanitation guidelines and regulations, be quick, follow instructions and work in a fast‑paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepping for service as needed by Chefs and Management by following prep lists created by chefs.
  • Measuring ingredients and seasonings and preparing cooking ingredients such as soup stock to be used in the cooking process.
  • Uniformly chopping produce and preparing meats.
  • Preparing simple dishes, such as entrees or salads.
  • Ensuring all food items are properly stored and easily accessible.
  • Properly stocking work areas includes setting up all condiments in their designated places.
  • Always maintain a clean and organized prep, pass and work areas.
  • Making sure all prep stations are full and ready for service – and fully operational during service.
  • Ensuring that the bread warmer is always well‑organized and adequately stocked.
  • Assist the porters in disposing of the trash. Make sure that all the garbage is properly removed.
  • Helping with expediting food orders for kitchen and servers.
  • It is important to work collaboratively as a team, providing assistance to others whenever necessary. This involves working closely with the kitchen staff.
  • Complete assigned side work before/after service, checklists to standard. Contribute to a seamless experience.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager.
Experience Required
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a fast‑paced, upscale and approachable environment of professionals
  • Strong understanding of professional cooking and encompasses educated knife‑handling skills.
  • Strong communicator, able to take direction, team player mentality.
  • Proactive ability to build professional relationships with all leaders and kitchen team.
  • Food handler’s certificate
  • Flexible schedule and ability to work morning, night, weekend and holiday’s (as needed)
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to seize, grasp, turn, and hold objects with hands.
  • Must be able to work on your feet for at least 8‑10 hours.
  • Fast‑paced movements are required to go from one part of the kitchen and storage areas to others.
  • Must be able to move, pull, carry, or lift up to 50 pounds on occasion and 35 pounds regularly.
  • Occasional environmental exposures to cold, heat, and water
  • Occasionally kneel, bend, crouch, and climb as required.
