We are looking for a full-time Sommelier with a deep passion for wine and a commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences. Our client is a luxury hotel in the Caribbean. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of wines from around the world, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-end restaurant environment.

Key Qualifications
  • WSET Level 3 certification is required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sommelier in a fine dining establishment
  • Extensive knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and wine-making processes
  • Caribbean or remote island experience required
  • Luxury Hospitality experience required
  • Excellent palate and ability to describe wines in detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in inventory management and wine cellar organization
  • Experience with wine list creation and management
  • Knowledge of food and wine pairing principles
  • Familiarity with POS systems and basic computer skills
Responsibilities
  • Wine List Management:
    • Curate and maintain an extensive and diverse wine list that complements our menu
    • Regularly update the wine list to reflect new acquisitions, vintage changes, and seasonal menu adjustments
    • Ensure proper pricing of wines to maintain profitability while offering value to guests
    • Collaborate with the Executive Chef to create wine pairings for tasting menus and special events
  • Guest Service:
    • Provide expert wine recommendations to guests based on their preferences, food choices, and budget
    • Educate guests about wine characteristics, regions, and production methods
    • Conduct wine tastings and educational sessions for guests upon request
    • Ensure proper wine service, including decanting, temperature control, and glassware selection
    • Address and resolve any wine-related concerns or issues raised by guests
  • Inventory Management:
    • Maintain accurate inventory records of the wine cellar
    • Conduct regular stock takes and reconcile discrepancies
