Job SummaryThe Busser position is a central and vital part of the service. Bussers are aimed to support other team members by acting proactively before, during and after service. Tasks include, but are not limited to, cleaning and resetting tables, ensuring the availability of flatware and plates, and bringing guest needs to the attention of the server. This position will also restock necessary items, such as napkins and straws, and may assist with washing dishes.
Should be efficient, attentive, and have strong customer service skills.
- Prepare the dining room for customers before and during service by cleaning and setting tables; setting decorations, condiments, candles, napkins, service plates, and utensils.
- Always ensure the floor is free of debris and all seats are wiped before guests’ arrival.
- Maintain menu presentation by keeping all menus clean and replacing damaged or soiled pages.
- Maintain table settings by removing dirty flatware and debris as courses are completed, replenishing utensils, refilling water glasses, and attending to the needs and wellbeing of all guests.
- Support server team by setting up and replenishing condiment stands, trash container liners, and bus station.
- Close dining areas by cleaning chairs and tables, sweeping and/or vacuuming floors, and removing trash and recyclables.
- Participate in staff training opportunities to update job knowledge.
- Strictly adhere to sanitation and safety policies at all times.
- Follow sanitation and cleaning protocols while cleaning and resetting tables.
- Participate in ongoing training and improvement, including food and beverage knowledge and service steps.
- Provide excellent customer service by proactively anticipating customer needs.
- Interact with guests to ensure their needs and expectations are met, but never interfere with the guest experience.
- Respond effectively to guest inquiries and follow procedure if a guest has issues.
- Understand the importance of guest satisfaction and focus on continuous improvement.
- 2+ years work experience as a Busser or Food Runner.
- Outgoing people person with an urge to provide a great customer experience.
- Must be able to communicate clearly in English and Spanish preferably.
- Always customer focused and willing to support a great dining experience; supportive team player with positive team spirit.
- Flexible to work different shifts including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Deep understanding of hygiene and food safety rules in accordance with Mr. Hospitality Standard procedures.
- Ability to multitask, remain calm and professional in a fast‑paced and often noisy environment.
- Strong problem‑solving, communication, and interpersonal skills required.
- Observant, thorough, responsible, and punctual at all times.
- Ability to meet physical and scheduling demands: walking, standing, lifting heavy items for extended periods; carry heavy trays and stand for long hours.
- Abide by brand uniform requirements.
- Maintain good personal hygiene; fingernails cut and clean; clean‑shaven at all times.
- Slip‑resistant black shoes.
- Maintain personal health and sanitation standards (wash hands when using restroom).
- Be honest, trustworthy, and respectful.
- Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity.
- Be flexible in regard to schedule.
- Demonstrate sound work ethics.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; frequently 25 pounds; occasionally 50 pounds.
- Stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear and taste or smell.
- Use of chemicals and electrical equipment.
- Tolerate varying conditions of noise level, temperature, illumination, and air quality.
- Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat (non‑weather).
- Noise level usually loud.
