EM, membrane biophysics, and infection/immunity research to redefine how receptors like integrins, GPCRs, and adhesion complexes are regulated. About this opportunity
Successful candidates will work in a cutting-edge research environment with new state-of-the-art facilities. The laboratory has outstanding cell biology, molecular biology, protein expression, purification, biochemistry, cryogenic electron microscopy, and protein crystallography facilities. The laboratory has access to many exceptional Cores, facilitating basic research and drug development. The unique infrastructure includes the application of unique chemical, genomic, proteomic, informatics, and high-throughput screening and engineering tools for discovering novel biomolecules.
Facilitiesand capabilities
CryoEM at UF-Scripps
Tina Izard installed the first 300 kV cryo Atomic Resolution Microscope (cryoARM
300) in the Americas and has ample microscope time dedicated to the laboratory staff. This is a state-of-the-art transmission electron microscope capable of atomic-resolution studies, equipped with a Gatan K3 direct electron detector camera for high signal-to-noise images.
X-ray crystallography at UF-Scripps
The lab has access to SER-CAT beamlines at Sector 22 of the Advanced Photon Source (APS), including modern insertion device lines and a bending magnet line for macromolecular crystallography. Facilities are equipped with updated optics and detectors under APS upgrades to support high-performance projects. The lab also has access to a High Flux X-ray diffraction system and related equipment to optimize diffraction characteristics.

The Wertheim UF Scripps Institute shares its Jupiter campus with the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience (MPFI). MPFI is internationally recognized for imaging and neuroscience, creating a highly collaborative research environment. Staff benefit from joint seminars, shared facilities, interdisciplinary collaborations, and daily interaction with world-class scientists across structural biology, chemical biology, and neuroscience.

Florida has no state income tax, which can benefit post-doctoral salaries, and the cost of living in northern Palm Beach County is favorable compared to other research hubs.
The campus is part of a growing biotech corridor that includes MPFI, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
Expected Salary: $15.30 per hour.
High school students who are dual-enrolled in college courses will be considered. Ability to work 15-20 hours per week.
QualificationsPreferred Qualifications:
- Minimum GPA of 3.5.
- The candidate should be a student enrolled in a bachelor’s program in an appropriate area of specialization.
