The SURF program is a ten-week, full-time research experience for undergraduates at The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute in Jupiter, Florida.
The program integrates cutting-edge bioscience research with chemical tool development, placing students in one of four department laboratories:
Chemistry, Immunology and Microbiology, Molecular Medicine, or Neuroscience. Participants are placed in laboratories working in their area of interest and matched with a faculty mentor accordingly. Students are expected to work full-time in the laboratory and participate in weekly research seminars and professional development meetings, which provide mentorship on writing graduate school applications and honing scientific presentation skills. The program culminates in a campus-wide poster session at the Summer Student Symposium, where participants present their research.
