Responsibilities
The Research Associate 2 contributes to the university’s research activities under the supervision of senior staff. The incumbent understands, interprets, and complies with research policies and protocols. This position involves performance of a variety of experiments in support of research in immune recovery or immune activation in the context of stem cell transplantation or cell therapy.
- Conduct laboratory assignments, including preparing and preserving peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from blood samples.
- Participate in the scheduling and performance of experiments related to immunology and leukocyte biology studies in a research laboratory.
- Conduct experimental procedures, maintain accurate records, and assist in interpreting experimental data and solving technical protocol execution problems.
- Operate routine scientific laboratory equipment.
- Provide technical support in various procedures, including collection and/or processing of specimens obtained from healthy human donors and clinical patient samples.
- Perform standard immunological techniques and molecular biology assays, including monoclonal antibody binding assays, ELISA, flow cytometry, immunoprecipitation assays, Western blot, PCR, RT‑PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, viral titer quantification, signal transduction assays, protein purification, and fluorescence microscopy.
- Assist with scientific literature searches and update the laboratory bibliography.
- Prepare reports of relevant findings for manuscripts, grant proposals, and presentations at laboratory meetings.
- Prepare required monthly/quarterly/annual reports, including grant progress reports and environmental health and safety reports.
- B.S. degree in Microbiology, Immunology, Biology, or related field (preferred).
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in an academic research laboratory, including processing blood samples, performing flow cytometry, and advanced biology knowledge (strongly preferred).
- Proficiency with Prism, Flow Jo, Microsoft Office, and other laboratory software.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment in critical decisions.
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment, methods, and safety practices in a research setting.
