Summary
:

Zoo Miami is currently seeking one exceptional individual to support our keeper staff with their animal husbandry efforts in our Animal Health team. These teams work with a variety of taxa which may include mammals, birds, reptiles, and fish.

We are looking for a team‑oriented candidate who is eager to enter the animal care field at a high‑performing AZA institution. Candidates will be relied on heavily to support animal husbandry routines and to provide guest engagement opportunities by being approachable, engaging, and passionate while delivering exceptional customer service.

This position reports directly to the Animal Care Supervisor. Responsibilities include the daily maintenance and care of animals and exhibits in the assigned routine, such as raking, shoveling, sanitation, enrichment, record keeping, dispensing food and water as directed, and providing exemplary guest service experiences through engagement and public presentations.

Responsibilities / Duties
:

  • Daily maintenance routines of indoor and outdoor exhibits, including removing debris and feces, cleaning water and food dishes, bedding, and pools as set forth by AZA, USDA, and Zoo Miami.
  • Daily maintenance routines for hospitalized patients, animals in quarantine, resident animals, and support functions in the sea turtle and aquaponics center when the facility is operational.
  • Assist with daily cleaning and stocking of hospital and quarantine buildings.
  • Assist guests with zoo questions, interpret zoo rules and safety signs, provide accurate information on attractions and activities, and report unusual incidents or behaviors.
  • Assist in the distribution of diets at exhibits; help maintain and disinfect food preparation and distribution areas.
  • Assist in the distribution and preparation of enrichment materials.
  • Record animal behavior observations and maintain records in accordance with protocols or as directed.

Performs related duties including special projects as required.

Experience Required

Eighth grade. One year of experience in guest service or general labor is required. Must possess a driver’s license. Must be able to work days, nights, holidays, and weekends on a varied work schedule.
