Description:
The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) plays a critical role in providing high-quality, patient-centered care in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. This position encompasses various units, including the First Encounter Station, Main ED, and each designed to triage, assess, and deliver emergent care tailored to patient needs. The ED RN is responsible for managing patients across a broad spectrum of acute medical, surgical, psychiatric, and trauma conditions, including high-volume cases such as low back pain, chest pain, and essential hypertension, with viral screenings constituting a significant portion of visits.
PrimaryResponsibilities Unit Description
First Encounter Station:
Station for RN to perform an initial assessment and direct patients to the proper level of care. Main ED: 23 beds, two (2) MHOA rooms, two (2) isolation rooms, a GYN room, a procedure room, four (4) rooms at the ED entrance (triage/fast track area). This area has a medication room, soiled utility room, supply pyxis room, and a linen room.
There are three (3) recliners. STEMIs, surgical, vascular, trauma, acute psychiatry, and various other emergent medical diagnoses are seen in the ED. The top diagnoses in the ED are:
- Chest Pain
- Essential Hypertension Currently, the highest volume of ED
- Stroke
- Low Back Pain
- encounters are screenings for viral disease
- Patient triage and assessments
- Medication administration
- Performing and assisting with procedures
- IV therapy
- Telemetry monitoring
- Discharges
- External transfers
- Delegating to assistive personnel
- Electronic medical record documentation
- Patient transport
- Emergency response procedures
- Manage urgent/emergency care, mental health patients over the broad spectrum of disease and injury.
- Assess/intervene in urgent and emergent situations to preserve life and limbs as well as manage episodic exacerbations of chronic disease.
- BLS and ACLS certifications accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Unrestricted license to practice nursing in one of the States, Territories, or Commonwealths of the United States or the District of Columbia
- Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of current nursing experience. Must have prior ER/Critical Care experience and the ability to function independently in a stressful environment. - Education:
ASN accepted; BSN preferred - Education must have been completed at a school accredited by the ACEN or CCNE.
