Job Summary

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) delivers medical care to a wide variety of patients. The APRN examines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. May prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests. Advises patients about continuing care.

Core Job Functions
  • Performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories.
  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age‑specific needs.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic treatment modalities.
  • Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability.
  • Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Facilitates the patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g., admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.
  • Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools.
  • Adheres to University and unit‑level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Accountabilities
  • Work with supervising faculty members to manage all patient medical needs.
  • Complete H&Ps, consent reviews, post‑procedure assessments, medication adjustments, and discharge planning for cardiac cath, PCI, and structural heart procedures.
  • Perform daily rounds, review diagnostics (EKGs, labs, imaging), develop care plans, and coordinate with the interventional cardiology attending and multidisciplinary team.
  • Educate and guide patients on disease prevention and healthy lifestyle habits.
  • Educate patients and families on procedures, medications (e.g., antiplatelet therapy), risk‑factor modification, and follow‑up care, ensuring continuity between cath lab, clinic, and inpatient settings.
  • Understand changes in health promotion throughout the aging process.
  • Triage in‑basket messages, respond to urgent clinical issues, communicate abnormal results, and ensure timely follow‑ups to improve patient flow and procedural readiness.
  • Emphasize preventative care and disease management.
  • Prescribe needed medications.
  • Provide episodic and chronic care management, as well as screening and educational assistance to the clinic’s patients.
  • Recognize diversity of patient population and treat all warmly and kindly.
  • Work in harmony with other members of the healthcare team to provide the highest standards of quality care to patients.
  • Follow the clinics’ evidence‑based guidelines, perform common vaccinations and diagnostic screenings.
  • Provide clinical support to cardiology off‑campus site.
  • Identify patients for eligibility for research protocols as per IRB standards.
  • Take part in quality assurance audits, including continuing education, CP review, medication administration review, and peer review.
  • Ensure UHealth’s objectives regarding financials, patient engagement, patient satisfaction, and healthcare quality.
  • Ensure participation in continuing nursing education and training to keep abreast of current developments in the industry.
  • Ensure state licensure and national certification remain current and valid.
  • Ensure continuous flow of communication with leadership of healthcare clinic to enhance quality of healthcare service to patients.
  • Perform other tasks that may be assigned by the superior.
Position Requirements
  • Master’s Degree level Family Nurse Practitioner program, has national NP/AGNP/Adult‑Gerontology certification.
  • Current National Board Certification.
  • State of Florida license to practice as Advanced Practice Nurse.
  • Minimum of 5 years of APRN hospital and cardiac experience required.
