Role Overview

The Social Media Manager will lead our social strategy across owned channels, create compelling content that resonates with diverse audiences, and grow brand awareness while ensuring compliance with local regulations. Reporting to the Head of Marketing, this role will plan and execute social campaigns, manage community engagement, and provide performance insights to drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategy & Planning: Develop and implement an annual social media strategy aligned with brand goals, product launches and regulatory requirements.

  • Content Creation: Produce high-quality, platform-appropriate content (copy, images, video, reels, stories) that educates, engages and converts. Work with design and creative partners as needed.

  • Community Management: Own day-to-day community engagement—respond to comments and messages, moderate conversations, and foster a positive brand community.

  • Campaign Execution: Plan, run and optimise paid and organic campaigns across channels (Instagram, Facebook, X, Tik Tok, Linked In where appropriate).

  • Compliance &

    Risk Management:

    Ensure all social content complies with South African regulations and platform policies for hemp and cannabis products; manage approvals and maintain audit‑ready records.

  • Analytics & Reporting: Track KPIs, generate regular performance reports and translate insights into actionable recommendations to improve ROI and audience growth.

  • Cross‑functional

    Collaboration:

    Work closely with product, sales, customer service and legal teams to align messaging, product launches and customer communications.

  • Influencer & Partner Management: Identify, onboard and manage partnerships with creators and community partners in line with brand and compliance guidelines.

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with social trends, platform features and industry best practices to keep our approach innovative and effective.

Qualifications
  • 2+ years’ experience in social media management, preferably within CPG, wellness, hemp or cannabis‑related brands.

  • Proven ability to create engaging content and grow organic and paid social channels.

  • Strong copywriting and visual storytelling skills; experience producing short‑form video content.

  • Experience managing paid social campaigns and working with ad platforms, targeting and optimisation practices.

  • Familiarity with advertising and cannabis/hemp regulations, or willingness to quickly learn compliance requirements.

  • Proficient with social management and analytics tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Google Analytics, native platform insights).

  • Excellent stakeholder communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally.

  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple campaigns and content calendars.

  • Degree or diploma in Marketing, Communications, Media or equivalent practical experience is preferred.
